About Artist
It still surprises me that I enjoy woodturning. It’s a hobby full of dangerous sharp tools and fast-moving objects. Woodworking, tools, sanding…never had an appeal to me and I’m not a mechanically adept person. I took classes from John Armstrong at Yavapai College to understand why Ken enjoyed this hobby and see if I might enjoy it too. The first semester was filled with anxious moments while learning about catches, flying objects (from other students’ lathes…or mine), and sharp unknown tools. Surprisingly, I enjoyed it enough to take another class at the college. Since then, I’ve taken three classes with Kirk DeHeer and Paul Anderson at Craft Supplies in Utah to develop finesse and confidence when turning. It’s become an enjoyable, creative and challenging hobby that I enjoy.
